Sample Project – Logo of GIFluent

Believe it or not, I created the logo for my website GIFluent using 1001 fonts and I will show you how I went about the whole process.

I had a clear vision for my logo – a bold, capitalized font for “GIF” paired with a flowing cursive script for “luent”. The objective of my blog is that people become fluent about a topic by watching the GIFs in the blog.

First, I typed in GIF in the text box to preview how the text would look in each font. Then I selected the option for Commercial Free because I did not want to spend money for my logo. I also didn’t want to deal with the legal complexities of a commercial license. Since I wanted “GIF” in bold, I chose the bold option as well and ultimately chose the Coolvetica Font Family by Raymond Larabie.

Next I had to choose the font for “luent”. I followed the same process – typed in the text, chose the Commercial Free option, and selected the cursive option. Since I wasn’t satisfied with the results, I tried the script option and found Great Vibes by TypeSETit, which suited my needs.

Choosing the font is one thing, but creating the logo is another. To do this, I downloaded the text, unzipped the folder, right-clicked on the True Text Font File and then hit install. Now the text will be available on all software on my computer.

Then, I typed in the font in PowerPoint and took a snapshot. It may look a little old-school, but it works. If you have a better way to do this, please feel free to comment.
